A lot of people undermine the power of Facebook as a marketing tool and relate to it as nothing but a time wasting exercise. It might be true of people who use it for tracing high school classmates or for playing brainless video games. But what about authors who use it to host virtual release parties? What about the on governmental organizations that are raising massive donations for charitable causes using the same medium? It just goes on to affirm the old dictum– it is
what you make of it.

The easiest way to make a Facebook profile work for you is by linking it back to your main website, online store, blog or whatever you choose to link to. Remember though! Just linking back to your website is not going to bring you a flood of traffic. You need to give people a reason why they should check out whatever you are promoting.

There are other ways as well.

Facebook Ad Friends:

Obviously you are here to find people to network with and also promote your products, services and yourself to.

Remember though, don’t believe the saying that everyone is a prospect or will be willing to network with you. This is rubbish!

Take your time to sit down and work out who you think could be your customers. Spend some time using research tools like, “Google’s Free Keyword Tool”, to establish your market.

Never, never ever Spam your new Friends! This is one of the most biggest mistakes made by new marketers.

Facebook Fan Page:

A fan page is a page that can be created by anyone to admire absolutely anything that he feels is very arresting.

It is a method of getting feed backs from other enthusiasts or non-enthusiasts regarding that particular subject.

So you can simply start your own fan page. Book authors do it all the time to promote a novel they liked or their own novel and invite opinions of other people. In case you own a business worth promoting, just follow in their footsteps. Import your Weblog with the Notes’ application and keep your fan page updated.

Facebook Groups:

Use the ‘Groups application on Facebook and make a group of interested and like minded visitors. This can also help in marketing your brand as you can promote yourself as an authority on the product that you are selling.

Say you are in charge of a restaurant and project yourself as a gourmet and a food critic by hobby. You can then advice your visitors on which restaurant to check out for a particular cuisine and the details of new food joints that might have opened in your city.

This way you can build up your reliability with the interactive functionality that this application offers.

Facebook Bulletin:

The bulletin application of the Facebook has an important application. It serves as an instant message board for all kinds of important announcements that you may need to make regarding a new product or a sale, or a new movie; which otherwise you probably had to let people know by calling them individually. It is also extremely helpful in connecting with your customers. Just post the details of all points of sale and the relevant URLs and see the increase in click-through traffic.

Facebook Videos:

Making a Video of promoting you, your products or services. Then uploading it to Facebook can do wonders. The best Viral Videos are the ones that give people information that helps them. Or shows the benefits of the product or services you are promoting.

Try Tagging People in your Videos, as this notifies them to go check it out. Be very careful though not to exploit this.

Facebook Notes:

Another under utilized application. Notes can be used like a full Blog or Micro Blog. The same applies here, to market effectively. Write about the benefits of your product or service will have to the reader. Give them information that helps them make an informed decision to buy, subscribe, take action or ask you more.

A really good trick when using notes is to, include a stand out graphic. This app allows you to do this. Using something like this will make your post stand out amongst the crowd. Coupled with a killer headline, will increase your chances of getting it read!

Facebook Classifieds:

Should I use Facebook Classifieds? Only if you think your business fits into the categories in Facebook Classifieds. Remember you don’t want to go spamming the classifieds, it just pisses people off. But get creative though as this category can still be effective and drive traffic to your website.

Facebook Ads:

In 2010 is was written that Facebook Ads are starting to out perform Google Adwords. Go figure, why because for a start you can target a more definitive market for a whole lot less. If you want to use Facebook ads, test it with a few dollars first. Plus remember to split test your ads as well.

Remember whenever you use any of Facebook’s many apps to promote yourself, products or services. A clever headline, using keywords phrases or search terms relevant to your market. Will increase both visibility and conversions.

Facebook is increasingly being hailed all around the world as an innovative and effective avenue for business marketing. So don’t let your business lag behind due to some irrational and baseless fears regarding the efficacy of the internet.
